In today’s fast paced world, it seems like we have absolutely no time for the little things.
Often they get put aside so we can get seemingly more important things done.
Take for example, eating. Most of us prefer to do it daily. Three times at least or more for a lot of us.
But since we’re all human, we mess up every once and again.
We miss meals, eat the wrong food, grab fast food loaded with grease and salt on the run…all for the sake of simply saving time.
Does that sound right to you?
Add into this the “not surprising yet still kinda shocking” fact that only about 1 out of every 4 U.S. adults are getting the federally recommended guideline levels of exercise and muscle conditioning according to CDC reports.
Unfortunately, as easy as it is to forget the problems this lifestyle can have on our health and wellness, the facts are THIS is a timeline of reality many of us are experiencing now.
And that’s why it’s so important to get educated on healthier eating habits, not just for you…but for those who are counting on you to show up when it counts.
Make sense?
With that being said, I just wanted to add my own disclaimer here:
I am NOT a medically certified professional or nutritionist.
But I am someone who does their research and learns as much as I can on subjects that are relevant to both my interests and my livelihood.
I also have years of experience in the food service and restaurant industry where I’d work closely with fresh, organic, and healthy ingredients on a daily basis.
In these roles, I also mastered various cooking techniques and developed my palate and awareness beyond the realm of those who might not know what they don’t know about healthy nutritional eating.
But that’s ok, because that’s why I’m here, sharing this useful and important information with you.
So take all the following suggestions on healthier nutritional eating with a grain of celery salt.
But it is my hope that if this information can help at least one person change their future outcome by altering their eating habits for the better, well…I guess that’s why I’m taking the time to write this Ultimate Guide to Developing Healthy Nutritional Eating Habits for Life.
And if you’d like at least some credentials, I am a guy who has fluctuated nearly all of my four decades of life so far from “somewhat healthy” to “seriously obese with high blood pressure”.
And I like to think that now, through healthier eating habits (I am by no means perfect but I also don’t go H.A.M. on fast food bacon cheeseburgers late at night) as well as a combination of high intensity weight training and supplementation with CBD and electrolyzed reduced water have kept me relatively healthy, especially considering where I was in my late 20’s/early 30’s to now in my early 40’s.
I also know from experience that as the years go by and our bodies age, it gets harder to stay off the slippery slow of progressive weight gain and unhealthy eating habits.
But all that changes NOW with this knowledge you are unlocking simply by reading, understanding, and taking action. For you, your health, and the benefit of your loved ones and the communities you serve.
Healthy Nutritional Eating 101:
5 Simple Steps to Success
Step 1: Start where you are.
If you’re currently not eating a healthy diet, the most difficult thing to do is to simply start such a plan to improve your long-term health.
However, healthy eating along with regular exercise is very important for maintaining a good bodily function and goes a long way towards living a disease-free life.
If you struggle with healthy eating, then you know that breaking unhealthy habits can be the most difficult part of the process.
Therefore, if you truly want to live the best lifestyle possible, it is important to follow tips and advice to develop lifelong habits for healthy nutritional eating.
Step 2: Get rid of temptations.
When you are ready to start eating your way to a healthier lifestyle then it’s time to rid your home of all temptations distracting you from following healthy nutritional eating habits.
It’s a good idea to keep junk foods and sugary soft drinks OUT of your home so you won’t be tempted to snack during idle moments.
If you’re concerned about becoming famished with hunger, then keep healthy snacks on hand.
A few ideas for healthy snacks include:
- Carrot and celery sticks with peanut butter
- Greek yogurt
- Fresh fruit
- Whole wheat crackers
If are having issues trying to toss out the sugary sweets, then you can try keeping something small on hand, such as peppermints.
Eating a few of these won’t derail your diet but will also give you that little sugary fix you crave.
Step 3: Learn about healthy food options.
Another positive step when you are starting your journey to developing healthy nutritional eating habits is to research and learn what foods are the healthiest for you and how they react in your body’s digestive system.
And this all starts by first thinking healthy.
Most people would agree that foods like fruit, vegetables, and low fat meats proteins are good for you…but how many people truly understand why?
The key is knowing your nutrients. There are six essential nutrients we need to be consuming regularly to maintain optimized health and weight:
- Vitamins
- Minerals
- Protein
- Fats
- Water
- Carbohydrates
Understanding how specific nutrients work and why you need them, helps you make healthier choices for your body. Knowledge when applied for beneficial outcomes is power.
Step 4. Prepare.
Preparation is a major key when starting a healthy nutritional eating plan.
Consider your meal schedule for instance.
If you typically eat in a rushed hurry at nontraditional times of day, you are more likely to grab and go with a rushed fast food junk meal which will probably do more harm than good.
Remember:
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
Instead of grabbing a fast food value meal on the go, bring a bagged lunch to work. Some ideas might be a healthy wrap with fresh fruit and veggies.
And don’t forget dinner plans as well. Consider implementing a simple plan to have a meal ready before you get home would be ideal.
However, in today’s fast paced world, sometimes this is not possible.
A possible solution to this problem is taking a few minutes to write up a meal plan of your evening meals for the week. A perfect time to do this is right before you do your weekly shopping.
BONUS TIP:
Don’t grocery shop while hungry!
If you’re like me, shopping on an empty stomach might lead to a few candy bar and cookie purchases which eventually leads you right back to the slippery slope of unhealthy eating cycles.
Step 5: Embrace the suck.
When starting out with developing healthy nutritional eating habits, many will find it very difficult and uncomfortable to change what they’ve been conditioned to do for many years regarding the types of foods they put in their bodies.
Combine this challenge with your body possibly not feeling well for a brief period of time. However, this is actually normal as your body adjusts to your new and improved healthy nutritional eating habits and lifestyle.
Your body is cleansing itself from the unhealthy toxins built up from years of poor eating and unhealthy food choices.
If this feeling continues for several more days or you have any major concerns, then book a visit to your doctor ASAP.
Conclusion
When a baby is born, is it ready to run a marathon immediately? Of course not!
That’s why you must start with baby steps when implementing healthy nutritional eating habits for life.
Even if you only replace one can of soda a day with a glass of water, you are actually improving your calorie and sugar intake.
If you eat fast food every day for lunch, try replacing that half of the time with better quality foods like a salad or healthy wrap.
By starting with baby steps instead of cutting out all of the foods you love all at once, you’ll find that over time the transition to healthy eating to be much easier.
Take your time to learn about your eating habits and slowly replacing them with better meals and healthier food choices.
When you invest in yourself by taking the time to learn, understand, and implement why you should be choosing healthy nutritional eating options and making these necessary changes in an orderly, logical fashion, then you will feel much better within yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.
And when you are feeling better in these areas, you have the foundation to further your success in having healthy nutritional eating habits for life.
