Is a Moleskine notebook worth the cost? It depends on if your dreams are worth 13 bucks.

Like many other bloggers, I write daily. I do freelance writing for small businesses as my main hustle, and I also like to capture my thoughts and ideas on paper before they are lost forever.

So I write all the time, but not everything I write is worthy of a blog post. But, this is, because it’s awesome and will change your life for the better.

Is a Moleskine worth the cost?

Yes, you need this if you are a writer and/or you are the type of person who has good ideas and you like to write them down.

OR, if you DON’T write down your ideas when they strike you…then you NEED to start doing that. Why?

It’s simple: if you don’t write stuff down, it gets forgotten.

There’s no such thing as a mental note. You know it, and I know it. So stop denying it. And starting trying it.

Start writing down your ideas, thoughts, and whatever other notions strike you.

And stop looking like a high school student who is nervous about the prom with your spiral bound Mead notebook or composition Salt N Pepa cover notebook.

C’mon, you HATED those little kid notebooks back in the day, so why are you STILL rocking it?

In fact, maybe it’s BECAUSE you have negative connotations and associations with cheesy notebooks that you now associate the thought of writing down your ideas as “childish” or “futile”.

Or you might even think, “What’s the point, it’ll never work anyway.”

Well, maybe it won’t…but you never know until you try and you can’t try until you write it down.

Because when you write stuff down in HANDWRITING…that’s like a contract with YOURSELF to either go ahead with the idea that you wrote down, or to scrap it and move on to an even BETTER idea.

But how will you remember to do it if you don’t write stuff down and make it a habit to do so?

So, where does that leave us for a PROPER writing notebook for you, the grown adult with great ideas who needs to capture them in writing before they are lost forever?

Moleskine makes several different sizes with different types of lined/unlined/graph paper for however you like to write.

The covers are solid cardboard with a protective coating, similar to the Mead Five Star notebooks which I used to love…until I tried Moleskine.

The durable covers will not tear while also protecting your thoughts that you wrote on the paper within.

Another handy touch…an elastic bookmark that wraps around the pages.

You think you don’t need that but trust me once you start using it, you will probably still use the pen as a placeholder and that’s cool because I do as well.

Moleskine also has a squared pen that probably fits nicer in the notebooks, but I have not tried it yet.

Glad you didn’t ask it like that.

Short story long: I didn’t want a bulky notebook to carry around, so I went with a smaller model which, ironically is called the “Large” model but it’s about 5 inches wide by 8 inches tall and it’s the perfect size for capturing quick thoughts or more in-depth writing.

I didn’t want a smaller model, because I’d fill it up easily but I’ve been writing fairly regularly in mine for a few months and at 240 pages it’s still going strong.

Don’t be turned off by the price. Sure, $13 is weird to pay for a notebook, but just try it and you will like it.

I did. And you will, too.

And that was a short story made long. Here’s the long story made short:

I don’t know.

But basically, I tried Moleskine. I liked it. Maybe you should try it too because you just might like it.

Not just writing your ideas down or using a Moleskine; but trying that OTHER thing you’ve been meaning to try and have not yet started on it because, well…because you’re afraid.

You’re afraid of changing the status quo, even if the status quo is not that awesome.

Well, if you just TRY starting on your dream and pursuing your dream career, life change, aspirations, DREAM, then maybe something awesome will happen.

Or not. But least you know.
