3 reasons why I switched to Bluehost from GoDaddy

Like anybody else, I’m sometimes hesitant to step outside of my comfort zone and change my status quo.

For years, I put up with being unhappy with various facets of my life, even if I had the power to change things for the better.

I used to say stuff like:

“Well, that’s just how I’ve always done things.”

“Sure, it’s not an ideal situation, but hopefully someday it’ll get better.”

“I am too lazy and too scared to change my life for the better.”

OK, so maybe I never really said that last sentence out loud, but that’s basically the truth. And I’m not alone in this way of thinking.

Why I was so hesitant to try almost anything new that would take a bit of work and had unknown outcomes?

That’s easy.

I simply felt comfort in the known, even if the known was sometimes craptastic (or worse…crappy.)

But no more.

I’m done sitting on the sidelines and playing it safe and boring. I want to be a baller and a shot caller:

 

I’m doing more things in my life to flip the script on my status quo.

What sort of things? Basically small changes that add up to big changes.

I’ll write more about them in future blog posts, such as eating healthier, traveling more, and living life to your fullest potential.

But first, I’ll talk about my reasons why I switched from GoDaddy to Bluehost for Web hosting this blog.

1. Customer service

I didn’t really have any need to contact GoDaddy customer service. In fact, I think the only time I ever had to do that was to call and cancel a domain renewal.

However, I had to contact Bluehost during my switchover in order to verify something for my account. I called the 800 number and was assigned my own personal account manager, who spoke with me in more detail about Bluehost and other capabilities they had.

It is a nice touch and it was cool to chat with someone about my blog and where I want to go with it. You don’t really get to have those types of conversations with people who can talk the blog talk and it won’t be awkward.

Also, I did have to contact Bluehost tech support both via email and phone for some changeover issues with my blog and they were also very nice, helpful, and understanding of my issues.

2. Cost

Actually, for me cost was not a huge factor in my decision to switch. I was more interested in quality of service, value, and customer support than going with the cheapest. I went with the standard monthly promo deal shown above and it comes with everything I need.

Bluehost also gives you a lot of options for things like SSL certification, a dedicated IP address, one-one-one coaching sessions with their Web marketing consultants, and other nice add-ons.

3. Monetization

When I first started my blog, I didn’t think I’d run ads, so I opted just to have the free WordPress.com basic install.

Choosing this option did not allow me to monetize this blog, (e.g. post banner ads and affiliate links), since this violates WordPress.com’s terms of service.

That was a mistake I made early in The Game.

My recommendation is to ALWAYS monetize your blog.

Why?

Because if your content is helpful, entertaining, or so unique and intriguing that you get a lot of traffic to your site, then…well, you should be rewarded for that, right?

Plus, monetizing your blog and seeing what sort of affiliate traffic, clicks, and referral commissions you make is a good way to measure your blogging skills.

Since I am a Web content writer, I need to be able to practice the type of writing that gets results for my clients. What better way to practice than on my own blog?
