3 changes to make to your Facebook profile when looking for a job

Friday, May 10, 2013

Clark Kent's a Mac guy. Yeah, I guess I could see that.

A CareerBuilder survey shows that almost 40% of prospective employers look up job candidates on Facebook.

Here are 3 changes you can make to your Facebook profile right now to get the job you want (or to keep your current job).

3. Delete your Facebook.

Deleting your Facebook is an option you can do if your Facebook makes you look like a person who should not be hired for the job you want.
Wait, is that recyclable?

This is an option you can choose to do if your Facebook profile reflects a person who does not want a job.

Is it the right option? It depends.

Is your Facebook so full of crazy stuff and pics that you don’t want your boss to read it and find out who you REALLY are?

Then delete your Facebook and apply to jobs and try to find a better life.

2. Untag pics and delete stuff you don’t want your potential boss to see.

Companies usually like to hire employees who don't post weird or innapropriate stuff on Facebook. Hey, if you don't like it, maybe you can start your own company.

This could be easy or it could be hard. It really depends on how much stuff you have on your Facebook that you don’t want others to see.

Oh wait…you did know that is how Facebook works, right?

You may post things for others to read and look at and sometimes this leads to judgments on the person who posted it.

This should not be news to you, and if it is, then I am glad I told you and thank you for reading my blog.

1. Make your Facebook profile a reflection of who you truly are.

Make your Facebook profile look like the profile of somebody who has the job you want.
He might apply for that job at Rovio.

You can only be you, right?

So instead of deleting your Facebook and cutting yourself off from all of the relationships and contacts you’ve collected over the years, or spending hours de-tagging and editing the heck out of stupid past stuff (which you still may have to do if you choose to go this route), then maybe you can actually turn your Facebook into a true representative of you and the good things you do.

Show others what you like to do in your free time.

Let them know about the charities you support and the performers and artists that inspire you to achieve greatness in your own Grind.

And if your potential employer were to eStalk you further, then they would see that you make nice comments on the posts of others and you are a good writer and a good friend and you encourage positivity and you know what?

Let’s hire this person right now!

You can begin by posting helpful stuff that people looking at your Facebook would like to see.

Such as inspirational memes and YouTube videos like this awesome dashcam vid from Russia that shows people helping others:

What is your Facebook profile like?
Does it reflect your true greatness and how good of a person you are?
If not, then what do you need to do to get it to that point?
